rank Madison Bishop, 88, a 40-year resident of Harwood and previously of Southampton, Pennsylvania, died June 14 at Sunrise of Columbia in Columbia, MD. Frank was born on March 12, 1924 in East Saint Louis, Illinois to the late Frank and Fay Bishop and graduated from St. Louis University with both Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Electrical Engineering. Frank proudly served for over 3 years in the US Navy during WWII on the USS England DE-635, a Buckley-Class Destroyer Escort that sunk six enemy submarines in just twelve days which is a feat that is unparalleled in the history of antisubmarine warfare. In recognition of his honorable and exceptional military service, Frank received numerous awards to include a Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon, a Combat Action Ribbon, an American Campaign Medal, an Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, a Good Conduct Medal, and a World War II Victory Medal. While living in Maryland, Frank worked as a Test Engineering Manager with Litton Systems, Amecom Division, until his retirement. He received many awards and accommodations while working as an engineer in the defense industry. Frank built the home that he and his wife lived in while in Harwood. They loved to travel throughout the country in their RV. They visited many family members and friends along the way. They spent their winters in Phoenix with their son James and family. They loved watching their grandchildren’s sporting events year round. They were their biggest fans from a very early age through their college years. Frank was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church for 40 years and his main hobbies included golfing and home improvements. Frank was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Audrey L. Bishop in 2011 and one of his brothers, Billie Bishop. He is survived by three sons; Frank Louis (Linda) Bishop of Lothian, James Michael Bishop of Phoenix, AZ and Douglas Mitchell (Laurie) Bishop of Columbia. Also survived by seven grandchildren; Amy, Kaitlyn, Robyn, Ryan, Justin, Andrew and Jenna Bishop, and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call on Thursday, June 21, 2012 from 10:30 am until a funeral service begins at 11:30 at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD.
