rank Jarema, 86, a resident of Heritage Harbour died on Tuesday, September 5 at the Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, MD. Born on September 15, 1936, in Utica, NY to the late Frank and Stella Jarema, Frank attended Holy Trinity Elementary School and Utica Free Academy High School. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering in 1958 from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY, and a Masters Degree in civil engineering from the Catholic University of America. Frank was commissioned as a naval officer in May 1959 from the Naval Officer Candidate School in Newport, RI. He retired in 1984, after twenty-five years of active and reserve duty, as a Captain. He was also employed by the Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration with assignments in California, New York, Virginia, and Washington D.C. He retired as a Senior Engineering Manager in 1998 after 40 years of service. Frank subsequently worked as a substitute school teacher as well as a tutor for college entrance exams. He was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, serving as a catechist and usher, and enjoyed reading naval history, traveling with his wife, and gardening. Frank was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed watching sports as much as he did playing tennis and pickleball. He was an avid coin collector and member of the Colonial Coin Club as well as a member of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) and the Retired Officer Association. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Melanie Trutkoff, and his brother, Thomas Jarema. Frank is survived by his wife of 23 years, Judye Jarema; his children, Kimberley (Michael) Mitchell and Mark Jarema; his stepchildren, Leslie (Jerry) Ross and Karen (Norm) Yarbrough; his grandchildren, Danielle (Daniel) Callahan, Nicolette Basiliere and Thomas Trutkoff; his step-grandchildren, Hailey (Spencer) Keogh, Courtney and Kyle Ross and Taylor Morris; his great-grandchildren, Madalynn and Hazel Callahan and his former wife, Jean Shirley Jarema. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Frank's life on Sunday, September 10 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, September 11 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 620 N. Bestgate Rd., Annapolis, MD. Interment will take place at a later date.
