Frank Pappas - Obituary

rank G. Pappas (Age 90), law enforcement icon and career public servant, passed away surrounded by his family on June 9, 2013. Loving husband of Susan and the late Marie Pappas; loving father of George (Judge Kate O’Malley) Pappas, Paul (Cass) Pappas, and Joanne (Arthur) Alafoginis; dedicated step-father of Sean (Erin Johnson) Perkins and Scott Perkins; brother-in-law of Carl and the late Van Stauber, and beloved Papou to ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Born in Olean, NY on July 28, 1922, Frank was a decorated WW II veteran, serving in the Army Air Corps and later in the Air Force Reserves for more than 20 years. He spent over thirty years of his law enforcement career with the Drug Enforcement Administration, beginning as a Special Agent and finishing his career there as Special Assistant to the Deputy Administrator. After retiring from the DEA, Frank served as the Chief of Police in Ocean City, MD from 1980-1986 and as a Parole Commissioner for the State of Maryland from 1988-2002. He received his BA in Political Science from the University of Maryland, College Park and a Masters in Government from Southern Illinois University. Friends may call on Thursday, June 13 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD. Funeral service will be held on Friday, June 14 at 10:00 AM at Ss. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 2747 Riva Road, Annapolis, MD 21401. Interment will follow at Annunciation Cemetery, 5917 Windsor Mill Road, Baltimore, MD. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations in memory of Frank G. Pappas to Ss.
