rankie Gilliam, 70, a 30-year resident of Annapolis and formerly of northern Virginia, died of congestive heart failure Aug. 4 at her home after a recent illness. Mrs. Gilliam was born March 14, 1937, in Columbia, S.C., the daughter of the late Sally and Edwin DeWolfee. She owned and operated Arundel Driving School in Annapolis and was a licensed and certified classroom and driving instructor. Her family said she loved to teach others how to be good drivers. She was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary and attended Unity Church in Severna Park. Her interests included reading and gardening. In 1976 she was divorced from Robert George Heath II, who died Aug. 29, 1989. In December 1976, she married William Gilliam, who died Jan. 2, 1990. Surviving are one son, Paul Edward Heath of Sterling, Va.; two daughters, Deanna A. Heath of Edgewater and Mary Jane Timms of Poolesville; one sister, Gypsy Martin of Lugoff, S.C.; and three grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. on August 8, 2007 at Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater. The funeral and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Salvation Army, 351 Hilltop Lane, Annapolis, MD 21403.
