ranz Michael Mayr, an 8-year resident of Annapolis and previously of Landover, died October 24 in Falls Church, VA of heart failure after 15 year illness. He was 81. Born September 11, 1932 in Augsburg, Germany, he was employed as a machinist for Machinist Inc. in Washington, DC. Franz danced with the Washington D.C. Schuhplattler group, once performing for President Kennedy. He created the lightning rods that sit atop the Washington Monument. His memberships included the Men's club at St. Mary's Church in New Carrollton, American Legion Post 7 in Crownsville and was the past exalted Ruler of the Elks. Franz enjoyed volunteering at the Veteran's Hospital in Washington, DC and setting-up bingo for the American Legion and St. Mary's Church. Franz is survived by his companion, Betty Johnston and her son, Carroll (Linda) Johnston; his former spouse, Beverley Birch; three daughters, Debra (Steve) Curro, Carolyn (Roland) Mayr and Lisa (Tom) Boynton; a grandson, Taylor (Kaysha) Curro; a granddaughter, Etta Boynton; and a great-granddaughter, Rylee Curro. A graveside service will be held on Friday, November 1, 2013 at 1:30 pm Lakemont Memorial Gardens, 900 W. Central Avenue, Davidsonville, followed by a memorial service at 3:00 pm at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater.
