rederick Irving Trefry, age 92 formerly of Temple Hills, MD passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on February 1, 2026. Born on January 29, 1934 to Melbourne and Frances Trefry of Lynn Massachusetts.
Fred was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, affectionately called Grampy by his grandkids and Great Grampy by his great-grandkids. He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife of 61 years, Patricia, his sister, Lillian Hally and his brothers, Ralph and Ernie Trefry. Fred was survived by his children, Susan Ploor (Tim), Thomas (Terry), John (Valerie), and Michael Sr.; his 7 grandchildren, Michael Jr. (Anna), Christina Gilliam (Steven), Rachel Lacy (Colin), Tiffany Hill (Charlie), Emily Trefry, Timmy Ploor, and Joey Trefry and his 7 great grandchildren, SJ, Blake, Parker, Nathan, Peyton, Ryleigh and Maycee.
Fred joined the Air Force in 1951 and proudly served in the Korean War. After his years in the service, he met the love of his life Patricia and started their family. Fred worked for the federal government for over thirty years as a management analyst. He retired in 1989 and was able to spend many years with Patricia. They spent much of their retirement involved in the church and frequent trips to his family camp in Nova Scotia, Canada. Fred devoted his life to serving the Lord through the Catholic Church in many capacities throughout his life including the Men’s Club at Holy Family Parish and the Knights of Columbus.
Family and friends are invited to gather, share memories and celebrate Fred’s life at a viewing on Monday February 9th, 2026 from 2-4 pm at Kalas Funeral Home, 6160 Oxon Hill Rd, Oxon Hill Md 20745. Mass of Christian burial will be on Tuesday February 10th, 2026 at 11 am at Holy Family Catholic Church at 2210 Callaway St, Hillcrest Heights, MD 20748. The Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton, MD.
