Gene Page - Obituary

Gene Page (80) entered into eternal rest on Tuesday May 17, 2022 at his home in Ft. Washington Maryland surrounded by family. Gene was born November 29,1941 in Dillon South Carolina to the late Willie Beatrice and Henry Page Sr. He graduated from Gordon High School in Dillon South Carolina. He played basketball while attending North Carolina A & T State University in Greensboro, NC where he received a Bachelor of Science degree. After, NC A& T, Gene became a teacher (physical education) at Eastern High School in Washington DC which afforded him the opportunity to become a coach to the Men’s Varsity Basketball team. Gene was recognized as an outstanding coach and mentor, subsequently leading them to a Championship season in 1970. He was influential in the selection of players at Georgetown (notably Ronald Blaylock), by renowned (Hoyas) Head Coach John Thompson, and at Villanova. Gene then attended Howard University in Washington DC where he earned a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree (JD). Gene has been a member of the American Bar Association since 1994. He was also a member of the Bar of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania (1994 ) and the Bar of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals (1995). He was duly admitted and qualified as an Attorney/Counselor of the United States Court of the District of Columbia (1998) as well as the Supreme Court of the United States of America (2005). Gene also worked with the District of Columbia Court of Appeals. Finally, Gene served as an Assistant Attorney General for the District of Columbia Department of Health and Human Services where he retired in 2011. Gene had also been a member of Phi Alpha Delta Legal fraternity since 1971. As a coach, mentor and respected lawyer, Gene excelled professionally while establishing and cultivating a balance in his life as a dedicated and involved husband, father, brother and uncle. Gene routinely made conscious decisions throughout his life to elevate others. He was the embodiment of the principle of “lifting others as he rose”. t was important to him to ensure that his children had the opportunities they needed to reach their full potential. He will be truly missed by all of us. Left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 52 years Mildred Page, Ft Washington, Maryland; son Lance Page (daughter-in-law) Dr. Laura Castillo-Page), Burke, VA; Dawn Page, Ft. Washington MD; grandchildren Marcos and Isabel, brother Thornell Page, Washington DC , four sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews and friends who loved him dearly and will forever treasure his presence in their lives. In addition to his parents, Gene was predeceased by one sister Joan Blaylock and two brothers Harold (Billy) Page and Henry Page Jr. Relatives and friends are invited to Mr. Gene Page's Life Celebration on Monday, May 23, 2022 from 11 a.m. until the start of the funeral service at 12 p.m. at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 6160 Oxon Hill Road, Oxon Hill, Maryland 20745. Interment will be private at a later date.
