G

eneva Burgan Leitch, a resident of Birdsville since 1947 and previously of Hubbard Springs, VA died on October 26, 2013 at Anne Arundel Medical Center of pneumonia. She was 90. Born December 27, 1922 in Norton, VA, Geneva graduated from Flatwood High School in Jonesville, VA in 1940. Throughout her career, she was employed as an administrative assistant at Flatwood High School, a secretary in Ft. Meade, and a library cataloger at the United States Naval Academy, retiring with 30 total years of federal service. Mrs. Leitch was also co-owner of Leitch's store in Birdsville. Geneva was an active member of Davidsonville United Methodist; serving on the administrative board, care and nurture committee, Sunday school and Vacation Bible School teacher. She was also a member of the United Methodist Church Methodist Women Club and the Davidsonville Homemaker's Club. She enjoyed gardening, yardwork, canning beans, pickles and beets, throwing dinner parties, jigsaw puzzles and playing pitch card game. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Vernon Leitch, whom she married on December 5, 1947 and who died June 7, 2003; two brothers, James Roy and Cecil Bruce Burgan; and two sisters, Ruby Lucille Hicken and Edith Joy Bain. Geneva is survived by a son, Larry S. Leitch, and his wife, Joyce of Edgewater; a daughter, Linda K. Jones, and her husband, Ronald of Harwood; two sisters, Elizabeth Ann Dove of Davidsonville and Phyllis Sue Dever of Elwood, IN; five granddaughters, Kelly L. Sutton of Edgewater, Dawn M. Jeffords of Wake Forest, NC, Lisa A. Leitch of Odenton, Jaime L. Runnels of Lynchburg, VA and Stacey I. Leitch of Edgewater; and ten great-grandchildren. Friends are invited to Geneva's Life Celebration at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater on Thursday, October 31 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm and at Davidsonville United Methodist, 819 W Central Ave., Davidsonville on Friday, November 1 from 10 until time of funeral service begins at 11am. Interment immediately following in church cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Lawrence V.
