G

enevra Gage Peck Kyle, age 70, a thirty six year resident of Sherwood Forest and previously of Rockville, MD, died on Friday, March 4, 2011 at her residence after a 4 ½ month battle with pancreatic cancer. Born on April 9, 1940 in Washington, D.C. to the late Genevra and Philip V.W. Peck, Gage graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree with distinction in political science from Penn State University in 1962 and later earned a graduate degree in education from California State University at Long Beach. During her teaching career she taught first grade at Bells Mill Elementary in Bethesda, MD for seven years and at the Bloomfield School in Long Beach, CA for three years. Gage was past president of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in the State of Maryland, committee chair of the Four Rivers Garden Club, past president of the Washington, D.C. area Kappa Alpha Theta Alumni Association, and a member of the Naval Academy Women’s Golf Association. She was an active member of the Sherwood Forest Club where she served on the Forest Management Committee, the Endowment Board, assisted with the junior golf program, and was a member of the book club. In Montgomery County, MD, she was on the executive boards of the PTAs of the children’s elementary, middle, and high schools; she was on the Fallsmead School Planning Committee assisting in the design of the new school; and was an election judge in Montgomery County. Gage was an avid gardener, golfer, boater, and tennis player who enjoyed reading and being actively involved with her eight grandchildren. She is survived by her husband Thomas N. Kyle, whom she married on September 8, 1962; a daughter, Genevra Waldron of Baltimore, MD; two sons, Tom Kyle of Washington, D.C. and Philip Kyle of Chantilly, VA; a sister, Nancy Peck Noonan of Chevy Chase, MD; daughter-in-law Julie Kyle and son-in-law Matthew Waldron; five granddaughters, Ellie and Lainey Kyle of Chantilly, VA, Genevra “Maggie”, Lucy and Molly Waldron of Baltimore, MD; three grandsons, Alex Kyle of Potomac, MD and Stuart and Carter Kyle of Chantilly, VA. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 12 at 2:30pm at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church Annapolis, MD. Interment will be private.
