Genghis "Ojie" Lao Chan - Obituary

enghis “Ojie” Lao Chan returned to our Lord on the morning of March 22 nd 2023 after 70 years of celebrating life. Ojie was born in Calamba, Misamis Occidental, Philippines on February 17th 1953, to the late Jose Chan Har and the late Consuelo Lao Gazindo Chan. He spent his childhood years helping out in the family bakery and watching after his nieces and nephews. He graduated from San Carlos University with a Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Business Administration in 1974. After immigrating to America in 1988, Ojie began a career as a radiology film library technician at Inova Fairfax Hospital. Ojie enjoyed playing tennis, listening to music, working on cars, cooking hearty meals, watching old western and action movies, and watching games shows such as Family Feud and Jeopardy. He also loved helping his family and friends out as much as he could, even if they were far away in the Philippines. Ojie is preceded in death by his siblings Bernado “Bado” Chan, Presentacion Fung Mei “Inday” Fui, Dr. Romeo “Tata” Chan, Dr. Carlito “Ling-Ling” Chan, Yolanda “Dandy” Mayor, and Rosario “Gaga” Chan. He is survived by his siblings Perla “Bebe” Chan, Robia “Bobbie” Chan, Wilfredo “Boy” Chan, Dr. Estela “Inday” McDole, and Dr. Mario “Toto” Chan. He is survived by his beloved wife Nita Namata Chan, daughter Jessica, son James, daughter-in-law Liane, and grandsons Logan and Keanu. Viewings will be held on Friday, March 31 st , from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at Kalas Funeral Home: 6160 Oxon Hill Road, Oxon Hill, MD 20745. The funeral mass will be held on Saturday, April 1st at 12:30 PM at St. Mary’s of Piscataway: 13401 Piscataway Road, Clinton, MD 20735. Repass to follow. Ojie’s final resting place will be in Calamba, Misamis Occidental, Philippines, where he will be buried with his parents and other siblings in their family plot.
