George P. Antellas - Obituary

eorge “Greek” P. Antellas, Jr. an 18 year resident of Churchton, MD and previously of Nokesville, VA passed away on January 24, 2008 at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis of cancer. Born November 3, 1939 in Marshalltown, IA, he was employed as a Steam Engineer with the I.U.O.E. Local 99 in Washington, D.C., a Diesel Marine Engineer aboard a ship in the Navy and was a Chief Engineer with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers in Washington, D.C. He served in the Navy as a Petty Officer, Engineer on the U.S.S. Saloman A7F 161- U.S.S Kiona 72, USS Nitro AE 23, and USS Sagamore ATA 208. His medals include the good conduct medal, Eng E' Ribbon, National Defense Medal-Sea Service Ribbon. He was a member of Ss. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church, American Legion Post 206 in Chesapeake Beach, MD, Operating Engineers Local 99 in Washington, D.C., Naval Memorial in Washington, D.C., National Association of Tug Sailors, and Disabled Veterans of America. His hobbies included Decoy Carving, Deep Sea Fishing, Chesapeake Bay Fishing, and Golfing. He is survived by his wife of 32 years Connie L. Antellas; beloved father Mike of Pittsburgh, PA, Chris of Pleasanton, CA, Annette Honsinger of Manassas, VA and the late Greg Antellas; beloved grandfather to 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to Mr. Antellas' Life Celebration on Monday, January 28, 2008 from 11am to 12pm, with a funeral service beginning at noon at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, Edgewater. Interment will be held the following day at 12:00 p.m. at Culpeper National Cemetery, Culpeper, VA. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Chesapeake, 445 Defense Hwy., Annapolis, MD 21401.
