eorge “Jackie” L. Barksdale, Sr., 92, a lifelong resident of Lothian, MD passed away peacefully at home on April 28, 2026. Born on August 19, 1933, in Annapolis, MD to the late Mamie and Lawson Barksdale, Jackie graduated from Southern High School before being drafted into the United States Army, where he proudly served his country for 3 years. He attended the University of Maryland, where he studied Agriculture. He then went on to enjoy a lifelong career as a tobacco and dairy farmer. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and Future Farmers of America. In his spare time, Jackie was an expert bowler and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He played for Greenock baseball and was an avid fan of the Orioles. In addition to his parents, Jackie was preceded in death by his son, George Barksdale, Jr., who passed on September 19, 2015, and his brother, Manning Barksdale, who passed on September 1, 2018. He is survived by his lifetime love of 66 years, Ruth Hall of Lothian, MD; his daughter, Janice(Mike) Wetherholt of Lothian, MD; his sisters, Janice (Edwin) Jackson of Harwood, MD and Nancy (Walter) Barksdale of Annapolis, MD; his grandchildren, Alicia (Lucas) Jamerson, Amanda (Erik) Bengtson, Michael (Amanda) Wetherholt, Alexandra (John) Sigler, Victoria (Josh) Blackburn, Trey Barksdale, Jacob (Synthia) Barksdale, and Kayla (Alec) Brown; as well as 14 great-grandchildren. Friends and family are invited to celebrate George's life on Tuesday, May 5, from 5 to 8 pm at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD 21037, where his funeral service will be held the following day, Wednesday, May 6, at 11 am. Interment to follow at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery in Lothian.
