George Brezina - Obituary

eorge Lambert (Sonny) Brezina Sonny Brezina, age 81, longtime resident of Edgewater, passed away December 2, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. He served honorably in the U.S. Air Force and the National Guard and established himself in the early days of communication technology, working for 37 years for C&P Telephone Company, AT&T, Verizon and Lucent Technologies before retiring in 1990. In the early 1980’s he was active in the South River High School Sports Boosters, helping to raise money for the newly established organization at the brand new high school that sons Keith and Kurt attended. Sonny volunteered endless hours at Parkwood Christian Outfitters. He passed on his love of gardening, photography and collecting trinkets and treasures to his children and grandchildren. He was a member of the former Parkwood United Methodist Church and regularly attended services at Chesapeake Christian Fellowship. Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, Lambert and Sadie; one brother, Vincent; one sister Shirley Millett; and his wife of 55 years, Mary Lou Brezina, who passed away in 2008. He is survived by his children, Keith, Kurt (Krista), Kim, Kandace (Michael) Mershon, and Kathy (Mike) Brezina-Switzer; seven grandchildren, Brian (Nikki) Catlett, Breezy (Tim) Cornio, Ashley (Sean) Ziliox, Alison Williams, Daniel and Greg Jolles and Emma Brezina; and four great-grandchildren, Caden. Breanna, Jenna and Jillian. A Celebration of Sonny's life will be held on Saturday, December 7, from 9:30am until time of memorial service at 10:00am at Chesapeake Christian Fellowship, 377 West Central Avenue, Davidsonville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sonny’s name to DeCesaris Cancer Institute at Anne Arundel Medical Center, 2001 Medical Parkway, Annapolis, MD 21401 or South River High School Sports Boosters, 201 Central Avenue East, Edgewater, MD 21037.
