G

eorge E. Choulis, 94, a 60-year resident of Riva, Maryland, passed away on June 16, 2026, at Anne Arundel Medical Center. He was born in Washington, DC, on April 18, 1932, to the late James and Ida May (McCabe) Choulis. He had two sisters: Shirley Bowman (Zane) and Ruth Metts (Wendel). George had one brother, Raymond McCabe, Jr. (Barbara). All brothers and sisters are deceased. George graduated from Eastern High School in June 1950. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1952 and was honorably discharged in 1956. He married his soulmate, Shirley Ann Wines. Together, they raised two children, Debra Ann and Gary Michael. In addition to his parents and siblings, George was preceded in death by Shirley, his wife of 63 years, and son Gary. Throughout his career as a Draftsman, George was employed by Crestwood Engineering, Honeywell, and Westinghouse. He was a parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church in Davidsonville, MD. George loved his family, especially his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his loving daughter, Debra Ann Tall (Ben), granddaughter, Elizabeth Ann Hasbrouck (Nicholas), and great-grandchildren, Christian, Carter, and Aurora; and grandson, Nicholas James Tall (Lorena), and great-grandson (Myles); granddaughter, April Croissant (Ben), and great-grandchildren Zachary, Michael, and Tyler; and granddaughter, Michelle Choulis (John) and granddaughter Madelyn. His brother-in-law and lifelong friend also survives him, Elmer Joseph Wines (Connie), and their family members, Victoria, Valerie, Michael, and Stacey, and their children. He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching the Washington Commanders, Washington Nationals, Baltimore Orioles, and Golf. George and Shirley liked to vacation in Florida, Disney World, and Ocean City, Maryland. They also went to Germany and to the Ole Opry Land with Joe and Connie Wines. They went on numerous cruises that included Alaska, Hawaii, and Atlantis. Family and friends are invited to celebrate George's life on Thursday, June 25 from 12 PM until the start of his funeral service at 1 PM at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD 21037. Interment will follow at Lakemont Memorial Gardens, 900 W. Central Avenue, Davidsonville, MD 21035. Memorial contributions may be made in George’s name to The Wounded Warrior Project.
