eorge David Craven passed away peacefully on November 22, 2021, at his daughter's home in Annapolis, MD, after a lengthy illness. Born June 13, 1938, in Charlottesville, VA to the late George Dewey and Virgie May (Patterson) Craven, he graduated from Pennsbury High School in Fairless Hills, PA in 1956 and joined the Air Force the same year. His first assignment was to Germany where he met his wife, Inge. In 1961, they were married in Basel, Switzerland. George then returned stateside to California in November of the same year. His next station assignment was in Illinois, where his daughter was born. George continued his military career in New Jersey, Maryland, Thailand, and North Carolina. While at Andrews Air Force Base, he supported missions on Air Force One. George was a longtime member of Chapel Two on Andrews AFB. SMSGT Craven was a true patriot and served his country honorably from 1956 until his retirement from the Air Force in 1976. He then joined the Metropolitan Area Transit Authority in Washington, DC before fully retiring in 1997. He and his wife enjoyed traveling and took many trips to Germany, Switzerland, Austria, France, Italy, Denmark, and Sweden. George also loved fishing, which he often did with his grandson at the OBX beaches. He enjoyed reading, painting on canvas, and running his model trains. George is survived by his wife of 60 years, Inge W. Craven; a daughter, Karin (James) C. McCormick, and his beloved grandson, Ryan C. McCormick. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be greatly missed by all. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, January 6, 2022, at 2:00 pm at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.
