George Govatos - Obituary

eorge Paul Govatos, a resident of Annapolis, MD since 1980 and previously of Baltimore, MD, died at home on December 16, 2012 from a heart attack. He was 75. Born in Baltimore on July 2, 1937, George graduated from Loyola High School in 1955 and Loyola College in 1959. While living in Baltimore, he worked in the financial field with Merrill Lynch and Mercantile Bank. In 1980, he moved to Annapolis and bought and ran Sunshine Linens, a commercial restaurant linen business, until 2003. George loved to play golf and go fishing on his boat. He was preceded in death by a brother, Timothy Govatos. George is survived by his wife of 52 years, Betty Norris Govatos; three sons, G.Paul Govatos, M.David Govatos and his wife, Jackie and P. Alex Govatos and his wife, Kristina, all of Annapolis, MD; a sister, Barbara Ann and her husband, Dan of Gettysburg,PA; a sister-in-law, Jean Govatos; and six grandchildren, Lucas, Jacob, Jason, Kaitlyn, Blaise and Elizabeth, all of Annapolis, MD Friends are invited to George's Life Celebration from 3 to 5pm on Friday, December 21 at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SPCA of Anne Arundel County, 1815 Bay Ridge Avenue, Annapolis, MD 21403.
