eorge Deane Holderby, age 91, a two year resident of Annapolis, MD and former resident of St. Albans, WV from 1947 to 2008, died on Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at the Annapolitan Assisted Living Facility. Born on November 22, 1919 in Newark, Arkansas, George studied electrical engineering at Arkansas Tech for two years and graduated from the Milwaukee School of Engineering in 1947. In 1961 he passed the West Virginia State Registration Board’s written examination for Professional Engineers. George worked as a Design Engineer for Henry Elden Architects of Charleston, WV from 1959 to 1971 and established Holderby Engineering, Inc., a consulting firm, that was in operation from 1961 until 2006. During his career of more than fifty-five years, George designed hundreds of plumbing, air conditioning and electrical systems. From 1942 to 1945 he served in the U.S. Navy as an Electricians Mate First Class. George, a former member of the Washington Street Church of Christ in WV for more than fifty years, was a current member of the Annapolis Church of Christ since 2008. George enjoyed fishing, watching college football games, especially the West Virginia Mountaineers and the US Naval Academy Midshipmen and playing chess and dominoes. He had a lifetime curiosity about science and nature, always seeking to learn and understand something new. George was married on October 7, 1942 in Phoenix, AZ to his late wife, Mildred Parrott Holderby, who died on September 19, 2004. He is survived by three daughters, Diana (Robert) Kimberlin of Upper Marlboro, MD, Mary Holderby of Dublin, Ireland and Sharon (Duane) Stuart of Annapolis, MD and two grandchildren, Patrick (Christine) Kimberlin and Sarah (Bobby) Haislipp. He was predeceased by three brothers, Hinkle, Don and Wayne Holderby and two sisters, Sybil Troy and Juanita Carlton. Friends are invited to George’s Life Celebration at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD on Sunday, December 12 for 7:00 to 8:30pm. A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 13 at 11:00am at the Annapolis Church of Christ, 1601 Ritchie Hwy., Arnold, MD. Interment will be private. A memorial service will be held in St. Albans, WV in the Spring of 2011. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Orphan’s Lifetime Int’l., P.O.
