George W. Morris - Obituary

eorge William Morris, 87, passed away from complications of a recent surgery on January 31, 2019 in Annapolis, MD. George was born on March 27, 1931 to the late George and Lillian Morris in Wilmington, DE. After graduating from Unionville High School in 1948 George enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving from 1949 through 1953. He then earned a bachelor’s degree from Marshall College in engineering science in 1958. George worked as a Mechanical Marine Engineer and Chief with the machinery section, Naval Engineering Division at the U.S. Coast Guard HQ Washington, DC from 1958 until his retirement in 1994. He also spent time as a marine engineer for Advanced Marine Enterprise as well as Gibbs and Cox, Naval Architects. In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his wife, of 46 years Mary Lee Dent Morris on July 31, 2004; and a sister, Kay Ryan. George is survived by his children, Rodney Morris of Reston, VA and Sharon Morris of Olney, MD; two grandchildren, Kevin Morris of Phoenix, AZ and Erin Morris of Edgewater. A graveside service will be held on Monday, February 4 at 1:45 p.m. at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery, 1122 Sunrise Beach Road, Crownsville, MD.
