eorge Henry Northcraft Jr., 56, a resident of Edgewater for over 25 years and previously of Rawlings, died August 9 at Anne Arundel Medical Center. He was born on November 27, 1955 in Baltimore to Virginia Pearl Northcraft currently of Rawlings and the late George Henry Northcraft, Sr. He graduated in 1973 from Bruce High School in Westernport and in 1985 from Allegany Community College with an Associate of Arts Degree in Electro Mechanical Technology. He served as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force from 1975 to 1982, providing support to the Military Band. During his enlistment, George received the Air Force Commendation Medal for outstanding achievement by saving the lives of two adults and two children when he pulled them from a burning car while on temporary duty in Detroit, MI. After completing his military service, George worked at the U.S. Post Office in Shady Grove. George was a member of the VFW and American Legion. He enjoyed spending time with his family and especially enjoyed playing with his grandchildren. He was proud of his boat and loved to fish. He is survived by his wife, Kimberly Myers Northcraft ; his stepson, Scotty (Sandy) Myers of Edgewater; his stepdaughter, Crystal (John) Myers Greenhill of Springfield; brother, Roger Northcraft of Edgewater; sister, Cheri (James) Northcraft-Thompson of Alexandria, VA; three grandsons, Brandon Greenhill, John Greenhill, Jr. and Scott Myers, Jr.; five granddaughters, Aliyah and Elliana Greenhill and Jasmine, Savannah and Rosalie Myers. Friends are invited to George’s Life Celebration from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., Sunday August 12 at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater. Graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, August 13, 2012 at Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery, 14205 Pleasant Valley Road NE, Flintstone. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Cancer Center, Executive Office, Suite N9E17, 22 S. Greene Street, Baltimore, Maryland 21201.
