eorge Robey Sr., 83, a thirty-eight-year resident of Davidsonville, MD, and formerly of Glenn Dale, MD died of cancer on Tuesday, September 5, at his home in Davidsonville. George was born on May 26, 1940, in Washington, DC to the late George Emanuel Robey and Ada Mae Robey. George was a star pitcher on the Bladensburg High School Baseball team, and upon graduation from Bladensburg High School in 1958 George “Pop” was drafted as a pitcher by the New York Yankees organization. He is a retired DC Firefighter and worked part-time to build a very successful paint business. George lived for his family and was a devoted husband and father. He loved watching his grandkids play sports and was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren in all their endeavors. George is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years Martha Robey, he is survived by his children, Sharon Shackelford and her husband, Jeff of Crofton, MD; George “Andy” Robey, Jr. and his wife, Delia of Bowie, MD, and Donna Spencer and her husband, Bruce of Davidsonville, MD; his grandchildren, Nick (Kasey) and Doug (Sarah) Shackelford, Alaina (Robbie) Lewis, Megan (Ricky) Schruefer, Andrew Robey, Patrick, Cameron and William Spencer and his 4 great-grandchildren, Sloane, Lincoln, Franklin, and Abigail Shackelford. Friends are invited to celebrate George’s life on Sunday, September 10 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD where his funeral service will be held on Monday, September 11 at 1 p.m. Entombment will follow at the Lakemont Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Davidsonville, MD. In lieu of flowers, gifts in memory of George Robey Sr. may be directed to support general cancer research at the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center.
