eorgia Clair Daly, born Georgia Clair Liston in Glen Ellyn Illinois in November 1955, was the daughter of the late John W. Liston and Patricia Liston. Georgia was the older sister of Ben Liston and Renee Leary, and the younger sister of Casey Liston. Georgia grew up in Glen Ellyn Illinois, and in her teens moved to Grosse Point Michigan. After graduating from Grosse Point High School she attended Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington Illinois, earning her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing in 1978. Georgia then joined the U.S. Navy as a Navy Nurse Corps officer. While assigned to Bethesda Naval Hospital in Washington DC in 1979, Ensign Georgia Liston met Ensign Joe Daly; they married two years later in May 1981. Through 20 years of Joe’s career as a Navy officer, Georgia served as a nurse in many different assignments all over the country as they moved together. She and Joe settled in the Annapolis Maryland area in 1990. She remained in the U.S. Navy as a Reserve Officer and an Operating Room Nurse once she left active duty in 1983, retiring as a Navy Commander in 2007. Georgia and Joe did not have children but was very involved in the upbringing of her sister Renee’s three boys and in their family. Georgia enjoyed cycling, music, tennis, and was an avid reader. After retirement in 2017 she learned to play golf and that became her recreational focus in several women’s golf leagues and the U.S. Naval Academy Gold Club. She is survived by Joe Daly, her husband of 42 years; her mother, brother, and sisters; her three nephews: Dan, John, and Patrick Leary; and other family members. A memorial gathering will be held on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 from 6-8 PM at Kalas Funeral Home and Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, June 15, 2023 at 10:30 AM at St. John Neuman Catholic Church, 620 N. Bestgate Road, Annapolis, MD. She will be buried following the funeral in the Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Crownsville.
