G

eraldine H. Shumway, 88, of Edgewater, died of natural causes Aug. 4 at her home in Edgewater. Born in London, England, on Jan. 14, 1919, she married Dr. Norman P. Shumway who was serving as an American volunteer doctor in London Hospital during World War II. They lived most of their married life in Cleveland, Ohio, where she was very involved in the Council on World Affairs and other volunteer positions. The family moved to Bethesda in 1964 where she became involved in French classes, tennis and enjoying her grandchildren. Surviving are her daughters, Robin Gunning of Cleveland, Christine Abbass of New Hartford, N.Y., Mary Piatt of Edgewater, Anne Shumway-Cook of Seattle, Wash., and Priscilla Shumway of Isle of Palms, S.C.; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Dr. Shumway died July 7, 1982. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 101 Owensville Road, West River. Arrangements are by Kalas Funeral Home in Edgewater.
