eraldine “Gerry” Smalley, 79, a resident of Annapolis since 1967, died at home on August 29. Born April 25, 1934 in Montclair, NJ to the late Henry and Marion Barlow, Gerry was a 1952 graduate of Bloomfield High School and then attended Hood College. She married David P. Smalley, a Marine officer, in June of 1957. Gerry was a tour guide for the Naval Academy Visitors Center and a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Annapolis. In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling, shopping, watching Naval Academy sporting events and spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren. She will be fondly remembered for her generosity and for her love of the Naval Academy. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of fifty years, David P. Smalley, who died in 2007, and one brother, Richard Barlow. Gerry is survived by two sons, David (Jill) Smalley, Jr. of Geneva, OH and Dan (Hilary) Smalley of Edgewater; two daughters, Donna (Mark) Guadagnini of Virginia Beach, VA and Diane Smalley of Virginia Beach, VA; one brother, Bob Barlow of Stamford, CT; one sister, Dorothy Mazzella of Montclair, NJ; four grandsons, David Smalley, III, Mark and Michael Guadagnini and Matthew Wynne; six granddaughters, Christine Guadagnini, Casey Lockwood, Adalyn and Isabelle Smalley, Jessie and Abigail Wynne; three great-grandchildren, Gavin, Eliana and Ethan Lockwood. Friends are invited to Gerry's Life Celebration on Friday, September 20 from 6pm to 9pm at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, September 21 at 9:00 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 109 Duke of Gloucester St., Annapolis. Inurnment will take place at the Naval Academy Columbarium on November 15 at 1:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory are recommended to the Naval Academy Midshipmen's Activity Fund.
