ilbert Lee Daymude, Sr., 87, of Washington, D.C. passed away peacefully on September 23, 2017, at Bethesda Health and Rehabilitation Center. Gilbert was born in Arlington, VA on March 13, 1930 to Willie and Nettie Daymude. Gilbert is survived by his son Gilbert, Jr. and his wife Laurie; his grandchildren, Jennifer and Timothy and his wife, Christie; great- grandchildren: Shelbee, Jay, Erika, and Michaela; great-grandsons: Maxx and Draven. Gilbert is one of eleven sisters and brothers, survived by Audrey, Dona and Pete. Gilbert joined the Army on March 6, 1953 through June 5, 1954 where he earned the Korean Service Medal with 1 Bronze Service Star, United Nations Service Medal, and National Defense Service Medal, then transferred to the U.S. Army Reserve. Before and after his Army service, Gilbert worked as a Brake and Clutch Serviceman. Gilbert enjoyed time with his grandchildren. He liked going to cookouts and family reunions. Family and friends are invited to Gilbert's celebration of life on Sunday, October 1 from 2-6 p.m. at the GEORGE P. KALAS FUNERAL HOME, 6160 Oxon Hill Rd., Oxon Hill, MD 20745. A memorial service will commence the next day, Monday, October 2 at 9:30 AM at the funeral home followed by a short burial service at: Quantico National Cemetery, 18424 Joplin Rd, Triangle, VA 22172 at 1:00 p.m.
