KALAS FUNERAL HOME, 2973 SOLOMONS ISLAND RD, EDGEWATER, MD 21037 ************************************************ Gilbert "Gil" Bryon Shaw, a lifetime resident of Annapolis, died on February 9 at Anne Arundel Medical Center. He was 87. Born July 17, 1926 in Annapolis to the late Byron L. and Mabel Weaver Shaw, Gil graduated from Annapolis High School in 1944 and from the Peabody Conservatory of Music with a degree in music performance. Gil served as a Tech 4/Bandsman with the 440th Army Service Forces Band in Valley Forge, PA. He was employed with Baltimore Life Insurance Company. Gil was a lifelong entertainer, known for having a steady stream of jokes and for making people laugh. He also played the trumpet in the Gil Shaw Orchestra. He was also famous for using his trumpet to lead a conga line off the end of a pier at the Epping Forest Dance. Gil was a member of the Annapolis Elks, Knights of Pythias and American Legion. He was preceded in death by one brother, Lester W. Shaw. Gil is survived by his wife, Alice W. Shaw, whom he married on July 25, 1951; two daughters, Vicki Shaw of Annapolis and Laurie Shaw Maglio of Midlothian, VA; a sister, Dorothy Nichols of Annapolis; and four grandchildren, Ryan Anthony and Carly Marie Maglio and Julian and Natalie Jeffery. Friends are invited to Gil's Life Celebration on Wednesday, February 12 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, where a funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 13 at 10am. Interment Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery.
