Gladys Grau - Obituary

his is a revised copy Scotty. Sorry my daughter caught it. Ella Gladys Irene Grau Gladys I. Grau, a 47 year resident of Edgewater, died on September 11, 2008 at Anne Arundel Medical Center after suffering a stroke. She was 92 years old. Born in Elkton, Rockingham County, Virginia to the late Robert F. and Bertha A. Shifflett Sipe, she graduated McGAHEYSVILLE High School in 1934, and later attended Dunsmore Business School in Stanton, VA, where she received certificates for shorthand and handwriting. Gladys was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Davidsonville, MD and did her mission work from her home. She loved helping others, traveling, flower gardens, games, sports, especially croquet and letter writing. Gladys was predeceased by her husband William “Bill” J. Grau, Jr. who died on August 31, 1997, whom she married on August 1, 1948. She is survived by her daughter Ella May and Elwood Harmel of Mitchellville, MD, her granddaughter Donna Marie Funk and Dave of Lusby, MD, two great-granddaughters, Tiffany Marie and Savannah Lea Funk of Lusby. Also survived by her two sisters, Eunice(June) Hamilton of Harrisonburg, VA, and Eleanor Stone of Pilot Mountain, North Carolina, and her brother in law James L. Grau and his wife Thea of Ashburn, VA., and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Fred Sipe and her sisters Anna Jean Armstrong and Ruby Garber. The family would like to recognize Jacque' and James Boock of Edgewater for their love, support and devotion to Gladys over the years. Friends are invited to Gladys' Life Celebration on Monday, September 15, 2008 from 2-4 & 6-8pm at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home. 2973 Solomons Island Rd. Edgewater, MD 21037, where funeral services will be held on Tuesday September 16th at 11am. Interment Mt Olivet Cemetery in McGaheysville, VA on Wednesday September 17, 2008 at 1pm. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Grace Evangelical Presbyterian Church , 4012 Birdsville, Road, Davidsonville, MD 21035.
