Glenn Gibbs - Obituary

ulian Glenwood “Glenn” Gibbs passed away peacefully on August 9 at Mandrin Inpatient Care Center with family by his side. Glenn was born on November 4, 1927 in Washington D.C. He served in the U.S. Army from 1945 through 1947, stationed for one year in Korea. Glenn attended George Washington University, where he was a member of the TKE fraternity, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1955. He worked as a geographer and analyst with the CIA for 31 years, retiring in 1983. Glenn was a member of St. Anne’s Church, where he served as evening prayer leader, lector, and chalicist. He served on the Anne Arundel County Board of Appeals, the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra Board of Directors, and the Annapolis Neck Peninsula Federation. He was a founding member of the Wednesday Republican Breakfast Club in Annapolis. Glenn served on the Gingerville Community Association Board of Directors, volunteered at the BWI welcome desk, and assisted at the food pantry at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Edgewater. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Anne “Penny” Prendergast Gibbs; sons Richard and his wife Laurie, and Mike and his wife Hope; and daughters Peggy and her husband Shane, Anne, and Katie and her husband Bob; he had 6 grandchildren. Glenn was predeceased by his parents, Julian Gibbs, Sr. and Dorothy Sanborn Gibbs, and brothers, Richard and William. Friends will be received at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater on Tuesday, August 13, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A memorial service will be held at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church on Church Circle in Annapolis on Wednesday, August 14 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Glenn’s memory may be made to St. Anne’s Church, 199 Duke of Gloucester Street, Annapolis, MD 21401, or The Hospice of the Chesapeake, 90 Ritchie Hwy., Pasadena, MD 21122.
