Gloria Reineking Bergmann passed away peacefully on December 3, 2023.  She was born on September 29, 1923 in Lake Hopatcong, NJ to the late Ferdinand and Bertha Huber Reineking, the first of three girls.  She grew up and attended schools in Hollis, NY, where her grandfather and father were prominent builders of single family homes.  She was a student of ballet at the Kovak School of Dance in New York City for eight years under Stephanie Kovak, a former Russian ballerina.  Gloria was proud that she lived to be 100 and enjoyed celebrating this milestone with her family and friends.  Gloria met her husband Alfred “Al” at Lake Hopatcong when they were teenagers.  They moved from Wharton, NJ to Rockville, MD in 1966 when Al took a position with the Department of Defense in Washington, DC. In 1967 the family moved to Potomac, MD and then to Annapolis in 1976.  Married for sixty-six years, Gloria and Al became avid sailors on their 27 ft. Watkins sloop, cruising the Chesapeake Bay for many happy summers.  They enjoyed traveling to many parts of the world.  Gloria held positions as a teacher at the Fleet School in Annapolis and an administrative assistant at the National Institutes of Health.  She especially enjoyed being a volunteer with the Annapolis Meals on Wheels organization. Gloria was a loving and dedicated wife and mother who took immense joy in her family and was loved greatly in return.  Lively conversations were a hallmark of Bergmann family meals, whether on a typical weekday or a special holiday.  Gloria loved music, art, poetry, gardening, reading, and cooking.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Al; her eldest son, Grant and her younger sister, Leatrice Saunders. She is survived by her children, Bradley (Victoria) Bergmann and Janice (Gary) Riddell; her grandchildren, Jennifer, Gregory (Janice) and Lance (Grant); her youngest sister, Joyce Stout and one cousin and six nieces and nephews.
