G

loria Jean Cantler of Gambrills, Maryland, age 50, died suddenly at Johns Hopkins Hospital, on June 10, 2010. In addition to her love for family and friends, Gloria will always be remembered for her zest for life, her kind and generous nature and her deep Christian faith. Gloria exemplified her faith and commitment to helping others as a member of Bay Area Community Church where she was actively involved with the youth group. She was also very involved with Kairos, a Christian ministry for inmates and their families. After raising her family, Gloria returned to school and graduated from Baltimore City Community College with an Applied Science Degree. Gloria was very much involved in her professional association, the Maryland Dental Hygienists' Association (MDHA). She was the 2009-2010 Immediate Past President of MDHA, and she served as President of MDHA from 2008-2009. During her presidency, Gloria also served on the Legislative Committee and successfully lobbied to allow dental hygienists to administer local anesthesia to patients in Maryland. This legislation was passed in the 2009 legislative session. She also served as President of the Western Shore Dental Hygienists' Association, in Annapolis, Maryland from 2007-2008. For the past six years, she has worked for Dr. Valentine Bauer in Arnold, Maryland as a hygienist. In her spare time she has been a hygienist for Dr. Don Cornell in Columbia, Maryland. Gloria is survived by her forever loving husband of 32 years, David Gwynn Cantler, Sr. She is also survived by her son, David, Jr., of Annapolis, Maryland, and his wife Pamela and her three adoring grandchildren, Victoria, Brianna and David Louis, and her son Todd Louis of Melbourne, Florida. Other family members include her sister-in law, Susan and her husband, John Kasprzak, and two nieces, Hannah and Lindsay of Chester, Maryland. Also surviving are her mother, Doris Sies, two sisters, Sandra Grudziecki and Linda and Melvin Bittinger and their families of Salisbury, Maryland, one half-sister Laura and Thomas Coker and family of West Virginia, and her father Richard Sies of South Carolina. Additionally, Louis E. and Carol Ann Cantler of Annapolis, Maryland will miss the daughter-in-law they loved as a daughter. Gloria will be missed by her extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins-in-law. Gloria's favorite pastime was spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren and nieces. She was a very loving person and was loved in return. She enjoyed going to the gym, church activities, helping the less fortunate, knitting, golfing and family vacations. She was also an avid Pittsburg Steelers fan. As a final gesture of her giving spirit, Gloria gave the most generous gift of life as an organ donor. Friends are invited to Gloria's Life Celebration at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD on Monday, June 14, 2010 from 7 to 9pm.
