loria Isabella Luther- the pillar, rock, and glue of her family. A strong and selfless woman whose generous spirit touched everyone she met. She was determined and ambitious, always striving to achieve her goals with a passionate heart. Her loving nature made her the perfect nurturer, and her wisdom guided her family and friends through life's challenges. She commanded a room with her presence, small but mighty, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her. Born January 13, 1944, in Wilmington, North Carolina, she was affectionately known as Shirley and Lil Bits. She was the cherished daughter of Murray and Thelma Conyers. She pursued her education in Wilmington and later trained in cosmetology. While working as a waitress at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, North Carolina, she met Delmas Luther, who would become her devoted husband. Delmas' career as a Marine brought him to Washington, DC, where he and Gloria were united in marriage in 1966 at Shiloh Baptist Church. They were the proud parents of five children: Carolyn, Willie, Deborah, Samantha (deceased), and Conswella. She was a devoted and loving mother who always took pride in ensuring her children were well-supported. She was a compassionate grandmother to thirteen grandchildren: Delmonik, Marquette, Tameka, Tanicka, Artaveya, Maiesha, Danielle, Delonte, Laray, Deonte, Trevon, Janae, and Chaeda. A proud great-grandmother of thirty great-grandchildren: Kamryn, Sydney, Emiko, Blaize, Kalil, Eliana, Marquette Jr., Charli, Chanel (deceased), Charles III, Jaelyn, Jeremiah III, Sasha,Taylor, Honesty, Myana, Alont’e, Harmony, Amir, Amari, Miyazia, Lishon, Ryan, LaRay Jr, Rocco, Skylar, D'armani, Dior, Dylan, & Demi. She was a devoted and caring sister to Evelyn, Barbara, Albert (deceased), Ida Mae (deceased), Leona, Glory Jean, Thelma, Gladys Ann, Leon, Yvette, Johnny (deceased), and Theresa. Her zest for life was rare, and she touched the lives of many with her infectious laugh and positive outlook. She never failed to see the rainbow at the end of every storm, and this was just a part of the magic that made up who she was. Memories of her will forever hold a special place in the hearts of those she loved and loved her in return. On May 16, 2025, at age 81, she peacefully passed away after a brief illness. Surrounded by her loving family, she was comforted in her final moments, leaving behind a legacy that will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Gloria is preceded in death by: Her Parents, Murray and Thelma Conyers; her sister, Ida Mae McMillan; her daughter, Samantha Peterson; her brothers, Albert and Johnny Conyers; her niece, LaTonya Stokely; and her nephews, Ronald Stokely, Arnold Stokely, Damell Stokely, and Daryl Landis. She is survived by her husband, Delmas Luther; four children; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-nine great-grandchildren; and a host of other family members. She will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her, and the love she shared will forever live in our hearts and memories. May her beautiful soul rest in peace. Relatives and friends are invited to Gloria's Life Celebration at Shiloh Baptist Church, 1500 9th St., NW, Washington, DC 20001 on Thursday, June 12, 2025 from 10 a.m. until the start of the funeral at 11 a.m. Interment National Harmony Memorial Park, 7101 Sheriff Rd., Hyattsville, MD 20785.
