Goldie May Talbert - Obituary

G

oldie May Talbert (née Northedge), 94, of Forestville, MD peacefully passed away at her home of Ampullary Cancer on April 5, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on February 10, 1930, in Washington, DC to the late Ruth Elizabeth Northedge (née Allen) and Albert Leo Northedge. Goldie worked for over 20 years as a Program Specialist for the US Census Bureau. She was married 62 years to her late husband, Preston Ellsworth Talbert, who passed away on April 27, 2010. Goldie loved Christ, her family, and others. She was a faithful Christian at the First Christian Church at Brock Hall in Upper Marlboro, MD, loved reading the Bible and attending Bible Study Group, and listening to the old hymns. She was an avid reader of novels and books. Goldie was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She expressed her concern for others by calling, sending cards, and writing letters, when individuals celebrated the holidays, had birthdays, lost loved ones, or were ill. Everyone said what beautiful handwriting she had. Her love and care for people was shown by her willingness to donate to almost every cause, but especially to needy children, cancer research, and military organizations. She enjoyed gardening, landscaping, and interior decorating her home as well as other homes. She loved the Spring and Summer seasons with all the beautifully colored flowers. She was quite an artist in her own right and enjoyed painting and embroidery. Up until her eighties, Goldie bowled in a league in Charles County, MD and won many individual and team trophies. She still drove her car, lived independently, and tended her flower gardens until being diagnosed with cancer in October 2023, at the age of 93. In addition to her husband and parents, Goldie is preceded in death by her brother, Clarence Northedge. Goldie was a loving wife, mother to 3 children, grandmother to 9 grandchildren and 3 step-grandchildren, and great-grandmother to 11 great-grandchildren and 4 step-great-grandchildren. She is survived by her oldest daughter, Fay Ann Woolwine (née Talbert) and her husband Robert Woolwine, granddaughter Roxann Mae Thompson (née Woolwine) and her husband Adam Thompson, great-grandsons Jacob, Robert Cole, and Seth Thompson; grandson Robert Neil Woolwine III, great-granddaughters Payton and Reagan Woolwine; granddaughters Christina Ruth and Melanie Elizabeth Woolwine, and great-grandchildren Mairin and Declan Woolwine-Whalen. She is also survived by her son, Preston Ellsworth Talbert, Jr. and his wife Mary, grandson Joseph Talbert and his wife Mandy, great-grandson Tyler Talbert; grandson Jason Talbert; step-grandson Michael Gentz and his wife Hope, step-great-grandson Charlie; step-grandson Matthew Gentz and his wife Amanda, step-great-grandchildren Lily and Brody Gentz; step-granddaughter Michelle Leduc (née Gentz) and her husband Conrad, and step-great-grandson CJ Leduc.
