n Wednesday, September 10, 2014, Gordon B. Russell, III, of Fort Washington, MD passed away. Beloved husband of Dorethea Moore Russell, born on November 16, 1958 to Mary Emma and the late Gordon Bruce Russell, Jr. at Fort Hood Military Base in Fort Hood, Texas.
Gordon graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1976. Gordon had fulfilling careers with the United States Secret Service and the National Rifle Association. Gordon became the first African American Director of Security in the history of the NRA.
Gordon enjoyed the essence of life. He was a beloved husband. He was true friend to those dearest to him. He was, by far, the most loyal, lifelong and number one fan of the Dallas Cowboys.
Gordon was preceded in death by his father, Gordon Bruce Russell, Jr.; his sister Karen R. Moreno and step-father Adolf P. Fisher. He is survived by his devoted wife, Dorethea Moore Russell; mother Mary Emma Fisher; two daughters, Jaime Russell and Stacey Russell; granddaughter Madison Hinnant; sisters Angelique Poore and Jacqueline Johnson; sisters-in-law, Ruby Whitsett, Doris Moore and Lisa Moore; brothers-in-law W. Louis Moore, Bernard Moore, Albert Moreno, Carl Poore, and Byron Johnson; one uncle, James Rivers; one aunt, Francine Rivers and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to Gordon's Life Celebration at St. Stephen Baptist Church, 5757 Temple Hill Road, Temple Hills, MD on Wednesday, September 17 from 10am until time of funeral service at 11am. Interment Resurrection Cemetery.
