raham Haywood, 70, a native of London and a resident of Davidsonville since 1991, died of pancreatic cancer Jan. 26 at Anne Arundel Medical Center after a four-month illness.
Mr. Haywood was born Dec. 2, 1937, in London and attended the Dartfod School for Boys and was a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute. He lived in St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands before moving to Severna Park.
He was a Lloyd's Broker and worked in the field of marine insurance, then in commercial appraising.
He served in the Parachute Regiment in the British military.
He was a keen sportsman and avidly participated in cricket and rugby until moving to the United States, where his passion turned to gardening. He was known for being an English gentleman, and for his dry wit and sense of humor; he was loved and respected by all those whose lives he touched.
Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Connie Haywood; seven sons, Quentin, Daemon and Nicholas Haywood of Great Britain, Mark O'Dry of Dallas, Malcolm Haywood of Tokyo, David Haywood-Strother of Towson and Christopher Haywood of Maryland; one brother, Ian Haywood of Great Britain; and four grandsons.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 2, 2008 at Davidsonville United Methodist Church, 819 Central Ave. Arrangements are by Kalas Funeral Home, Edgewater.
