Gregory Mack - Obituary

n June 30, 2011, Dr. Gregory Alan Mack, of Crownsville, Maryland, passed away at home comforted by his family. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 42 years, Ann Marie; daughters, Karen (Huyssoon), Katherine (Zacarias), and Kelly (Jurim); sons, Joseph and Michael; and grandchildren, Gregory, Olivia, Julianna, Cecilia, Samantha, Katherine Grace and Jacob. Dr. Mack was born on December 6, 1946, in Portland, Maine to the late Joseph and Barbara Mack. He graduated from Notre Dame High School in West Haven, Connecticut, Boston College in 1969 and in 1985 earned a doctorate in electrical engineering from the University of South Florida. He served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1974. Dr. Mack was Chief Scientist of the Information Exploitation Systems’ Branch at Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. Dr. Mack’s life was driven by his passions for God, family and engineering. He was devoted to his faith, drawing others to the church at St. Mary’s in Annapolis where he was the lead volunteer for Adult Faith Formation. He was passionate about his life’s work. In a career that spanned forty years, Dr. Mack contributed to advances in biomedical engineering for preventative healthcare, robotics, data interpretation and artificial intelligence. He owned a patent for wireline modems. He was a constant, caring husband and father, an avid sailor, spirited runner, voracious reader and rigorous thinker. Dr. Mack was cherished throughout his life by his family, friends and colleagues. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 5, at 10:30 a.m.at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 620 N. Bestgate Road, Annapolis, MD.
