Gregory L. Smith - Obituary

regory Louis Smith, age 64, died on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, MD from complications due to cancer. Greg, originally from Eugene, MO, made his home in Edgewater, MD and has lived in the area for the last 20 years. Greg graduated from Cole RV high school in 1970. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, serving for 24 years and retiring as a Master Sergeant. After his military retirement, he worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Lorien and Genesis Nursing Homes until his second retirement in 2009. Greg loved the outdoors enjoying running, fishing, hiking and camping. He ran several marathons and was an avid reader. Greg was preceded in death by his parents, Margot and Robert Smith and his older brother, Steven Smith. He is survived by his wife, Maritza; his children, Amy of Fort Hood, TX, Joshua of Trenton, OH, Devin of Port Orchard, WA, and Eduard, Arianna and Jacob all of Edgewater; his brother, Darrell Smith of Blue Springs, MO; his sister, Julie Williams of Springfield, MO and three grandchildren, Scottie, Griffin and Carter all of Trenton, OH. Friends are invited to celebrate Greg's life on Friday, November 18 from 5 pm until his funeral service begins at 6 pm at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 26 at 11 am at the Gageville Cemetery in Eugene, MO.
