Gretchen Merten Ostrom - Obituary

retchen Ann Merten Ostrom was born January 8th, 1945 in Akron, Ohio to George and Gertrude Merten. She passed away peacefully May 9th, 2026 in Annapolis, Maryland. She is survived by her siblings Greg, Gerry, Gwen and their families; her two children Jason and his wife Aimee, Kirsten and their father Chris. She spent most of her younger life in her beloved California. Her long professional career was spent in elementary education; initially as a teacher and subsequently as a guidance counselor. She touched the lives of many in significant ways; as a friend, a mother, a caring relative, an educator and an advocate. She had a zest for life, with an eagerness to enjoy. Whether it was traveling, trying a new restaurant, going to an event, or just listening, she was always ready to participate. She had an easy laugh and a smile that lit up the room. She brought so much joy to this world. She will be deeply missed.
