Harold "Hal" (Heinz) Alsberg, 87, a 36 year resident of the Bon Haven area of Annapolis and previously of La Canada, CA, died at home after a three month battle with cancer on March 7.
 
Born April 18, 1926 in Mannheim, Germany to the late Arthur and Berthe Alsberg, Hal immigrated to America with his family in May of 1947. He worked his way through college in NYC working numerous mechanical jobs, including fixing sewing machines. Soon after his arrival in America, he spent a year in the hospital due to complications from TB and participated in initial trials for Streptomycin, which cured his TB. He graduated from City College in NYC with a degree in Electrical Engineering. In the 60-70s, he worked with NASA, designing electrical systems and cameras for the space program. In the 80’s he worked with the Jet Propulsion Laboratory on numerous aero-space related projects. He continued to work in the aero-space industry until the mid 90s, travelling across Europe on business and enjoying the scenery and amenities of each new location. 

An avid boatman and auto mechanic, he spent many hours on the bay enjoying the Chesapeake and in the garage tinkering with his vintage Porsches or on numerous automotive and mechanical projects.
 
He is preceded in death by two wives, Hilde Weil, whom he was married to from 1952-1962 and Everyl Snelson-Parker-Alsberg, whom he was married to from 1970 until her death in 2001; and one son, Peter Alsberg who passed away in 2001. 

Hal is survived by his elder sister, Elizabeth Alsberg-Stoerk of NYC, NY; grandson, Benjamin Alsberg and daughter-in-law, Janis Stoval of Takoma Park; his companion of thirteen years, Angela O'Connor of Silver Spring; step-son and step-daughter-in-law, Richard Parker & Kathi Swifka-Parker of Colorado Springs, CO; step-daughter, Pennye Parker of Los Lunas, NM; two step-grandsons, Carl Lamar of Silver Spring and Shawn Parker of San Francisco, CA; step-granddaughter, Angela Parker of Colorado Springs, CO.
 
Friends are invited to Hal's Life Celebration on Saturday, March 15 beginning at 12pm at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, where a memorial service will begin at 2pm. Interment is private.
