arriet Phyllis Alexander Underwood, 82, of Annapolis and formerly of Crofton, MD, passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2018, at her home. Born on December 22, 1935, in Boston, MA to the late Samuel and Eleanor Alexander, Harriet earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from the University of Maryland in 1957 and later received a Master of Arts degree from Bowie State University. She worked as a Teacher and Program Administrator for the Maryland Public School System. Harriet was a member of Assistance League of the Chesapeake (ALC), Jewish Women's International (JWI) Tradition Chapter 1468 and Friends of the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra. She enjoyed tutoring children and giving back to her community and especially spending time with her family and friends. In addition to her parents, Harriet was preceded in death by her husband, William Dudley and her stepdaughter, Tina Underwood. She is survived by her brother, Michael Alexander of Lexington, MA and sister, Diane Meyer of Green Valley, AZ; her children, Lawrence Lebowitz of Biscayne Park, FL, and Marci Lebowitz of Annapolis; three stepchildren, Stanley Underwood of Glen Dale, MD, Tom Dudley of Owings Mills, MD and Harriet Walsh of Sykesville, MD, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Her two previous marriages to Paul Lebowitz and James Underwood ended in divorce. Friends are invited to visit from 9 AM until we celebrate Harriet's life with a memorial service starting at 10 AM on Monday, January 22 at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD. Private interment at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery.
