H

arry Hilton Early, Sr., age 83, a longtime resident of Mayo and previously of Washington, DC, died peacefully at his residence on January 7, 2023. He was born in Washington on January 3, 1940 and graduated from Anacostia High School. He served his country in the U. S. Marine Corps from 1958 until being honorably discharged in 1962. After his military time, he worked for many years as a supervisor for Baltimore Gas and Electric. His hobbies included golf, listening to smooth jazz and his favorite group, Earth Wind and Fire, drawing, going to Ocean City, riding the waves and enjoying his favorite chocolate shakes from Dumser’s, playing softball for many years for the Boozers, an over 35 team, flag football, watching Lucky Dog on television every Saturday morning and coaching and watching his children and grandchildren play various sports. He was also a huge fan of Notre Dame football and had the pleasure of attending a Fighting Irish home game with one of his grandsons. He also had a fondness and enjoyment of the family hot milk cake and was an avid fan of the Washington Redskins. Harry is survived by his children, Dotty Early DeBrouse of Spotsylvania, VA, Debby Early of Mayo, Harry H. Early, Jr. of Mayo, Dawn Bach (Tom) of Mayo and Erin Miller (David) of Orange, VA; his grandchildren, Brooke Early, Harry H. Early, III, Joanna Rutland, Tyler Early, Brittany Bach, Cody Bermudez, Tommy Bach, Joseph Bach, Michael Chamberlain and Bella Smith; five great grandchildren; and his sister, Sandy Sykes of Plaistow, NH. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Early. They met in 1958 were married for 30 years before her death in 1989. Family and friends are invited to join in Harry’s life celebration on Thursday, January 12 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Kalas Funeral Home and Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, January 13 at 12 noon at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 515 Loch Haven Road, Edgewater, with burial to follow in Lakemont Memorial Gardens, Davidsonville. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Harry’s name may be made to Melanoma Research Foundation (melanoma.org) or SPCA of Anne Arundel County (aacspca.org).
