H

arry Taylor Houchens, Jr., 75, of Annapolis and previously of Kent Island, died on February 24, 2012 at Anne Arundel Medical Center. He was born on July 3, 1936 in Beltsville and attended school in Bladensburg. Harry, a homebuilder, owned Tru Air Heating and Air Conditioning and Bowie Homes, Inc. for 30 years. He was highly regarded for his strong work ethic and always helping other people. He lived by the motto, “lead by example.” Harry was also a man of determination having overcome many health issues over the years. An avid outdoorsman, he had a passion for fishing and hunting. Harry enjoyed accompanying his father to the horse races. He also enjoyed eating crabs with his family and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Annapolis. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, the former Dorothy Hern, three children, two brothers, four sisters, two stepchildren, twelve grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Friends are invited to Harry’s Life Celebration on Tuesday, February 28, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9PM at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, February 29 at 10:30AM at St. John Neumann, 620 Bestgate Road, Annapolis. Interment Lakemont Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Benedictine School, 14299 Benedictine Lane, Ridgely, MD 21660 or www.benschool.org.
