arry L. “Butch” Rhule, Jr, 79, a 53 year resident of Mayo and previously of Lemoyne, PA, died at his home on January 21, 2026. Born in Baltimore on April 11, 1946 to the late Harry and Ethel Rhule, he graduated from Cedar Cliff High School. After high school, Butch spent three years in the United States Coast Guard, being honorably discharged in 1967. He then began a long career in law enforcement. After working from 1968-1973 for the Baltimore City Police Department, he then worked for 23 years as a Natural Resources Police Officer. He then transitioned to the Coordinator of the Natural Resources Police Reserve Officer Program, a position he held for 16 years until retiring in 2013. Butch was a member of Ducks Unlimited, National Wild Turkey Federation and State Jakes Coordinator. He loved ice hockey and decoy carving and collecting. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, F. Jane Rhule. He is survived by his daughter, Wendy Rhule of Mayo. A memorial gathering to celebrate Butch’s life will be held on Saturday, March 7 from 1-2 PM, followed by his memorial service at 2, at Kalas Funeral Home and Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater. Inurnment will be on Monday, March 9 at 1 PM at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery, 1122 Sunrise Beach Road, Crownsville. Hockey was a large part of Butch’s life, so for the gathering and service, you are encouraged to wear ice hockey jerseys or your favorite hockey team’s apparel.
