arry “Mike†“Mickey†Lee Taylor, II, 76, a 37-year resident of Churchton, MD died on March 19, 2010 at his home.
Born February 5, 1934 in Washington, D.C., he grew up in Southeast Washington, D.C. and Southern Maryland. Mike served as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. He graduated from Charlotte Hall Military Academy in 1953 and attended Montgomery and the University of Maryland. Mickey was owner/operator of H.L. Taylor Construction, Inc. for four decades, building churches, schools, libraries, recreation centers and public works. He was a licensed pilot who flew his own plane, scuba diver, accomplished jazz drummer who performed in several bands. Harry enjoyed hiking, golf, fishing, boating, building model airplane and flying remote controlled airplanes. His memberships included the Redskins Marching Band, Maryland Hiking Club and Appalachian hiking club. In retirement, he won local and state awards for his volunteer efforts at the Jug Bay Wildlife Sanctuary in Anne Arundel County.
He was the beloved husband of Georgene Taylor; father of Harry L. Taylor, III of West River, MD and Benjamin Taylor of Shady Side, MD; brother of Janice Taylor Bahen of Edgewater and Steve and Linda Taylor of California.
Friends are invited to Harry's Life Celebration at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD on Wednesday, March 24 from 2 to 4pm and 7 to 9pm. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary, 1361 Wrighton Road, Lothian, MD 20711.
