Heide Rose Mueller - Obituary

H

eide Rose Mueller (née Völter) passed away on Monday, September 26, 2016, at Georgetown Hospital in Washington, DC. She had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer 18 months previously and spent the last year and a half both undergoing rigorous treatment and in good humor, traveling, socializing and seeing her dear family and friends. Heide was born on September 5, 1943, in Ludwigsburg, Germany. After three sons, she was a much-beloved daughter, and the story goes that despite flowers being scarce, her parents found and decorated the church at her baptism with roses. She married Kurt Mueller on December 29, 1964, and shortly thereafter immigrated with him to Washington, DC. She raised her three children in Fort Washington, Maryland and obtained her B.S. in Psychology from the University of Maryland-College Park. She was for many years a Washington DC tour guide – a profession perfectly suited to her vivacious, sunny personality, her love of American history, and her desire to connect with others from all over the world and from all walks of life. Heide was a member of The Guild of Professional Tour Guides of Washington DC and a licensed tour guide since 1991. She was an accomplished hostess, a skilled cook, an indulgent grandmother and had an effervescent, joyous and infectious love of life. She is survived by her loving husband Kurt, her daughter Isabel, her sons Thomas and Boris, and her four adored grandchildren. Although cremation services will be private, the family will be holding a celebration of her life on November 6th, 2016 from 2-4pm. (Mount Airy Mansion 9640 Rosaryville Road, Upper Marlboro MD 20735) In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in honor of Heide Rose Mueller may be made to the United States Capitol Historical Society (https://donatenow.networkforgood.org/heidemueller) or a charity of one’s choice. She is much loved and will be much, much missed.
