iss Helen D. Garden, a native Washingtonian died on Sunday, July 27, 2008 at the age of 94. She was born and raised in Anacostia. For the majority of her life she lived on the estate passed from her great-grandfather that was located at 1720 Minnesota Ave., SE. Later she moved to Temple Hills, MD. Miss Garden was the great-granddaughter of the late Mr. Alexander Garden for whom The Garden Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1720 Minnesota Ave., SE is named. Mr. Alexander Garden's will gave the the plot of land on which the church stands. Miss Garden was active in her Garden Club and enjoyed pottery painting. She is survived by her great niece, Denise Hurd of Charlotte, NC and her great-great nieces, Courtney and Whitney Hurd also of Charlotte, NC. Relatives and friends are invited to Miss Garden's Life Celebration at the Garden Memorial Church, 1720 Minnesota Ave., SE, Washington, DC on Saturday, August 2, 2008 from 10am until time of service at 11am.
