H

elen G. Palaigos passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home in Winter Garden, Florida, on May 20, 2025, at the age of 100. Born and raised in Annapolis, Maryland on November 23, 1924. Her parents were George and Effie (Lewnes) Pappas, the second of 3 children. She graduated from Annapolis High School and Fleet Business School. Some of her jobs included working at the Palace Confectionery, and U.S. Naval Academy in the Superintendent’s Office. Helen met and married the love of her life Peter A. Palaigos (Pete) on June 27,1948 and spent 59 glorious years together until his death on June 4, 2007. They raised 3 children, 2 daughters and a son. While raising the family she worked with Pete at their family business Pete’s Pool Hall and later when the business became Acme Bar and Grill until they both retired. Helen was a member of Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Annapolis, Maryland and was a member of Agia Anna Philoptochos Society, a Sunday School Teacher, and a member of the Church Choir. Helen is survived by daughter Melanie P. Brock (David) of Winter Garden, Florida, son Anthony P. Palaigos (Linda) of Catonsville, Maryland, and daughter Effie P. Reed (Rick) of Kilgore, Texas along with 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Also, her nephew George Fassiadis (Lily) of Alexandria, Virginia. She is preceded in death by her parents George and Effie Pappas, husband Peter Palaigos, brother Anthony Pappas, sister and brother-in-law Frances and Apostoli Fassiadis, and niece Maria McCallam. The family would like to extend their Gratitude and a Big Heartfelt Thank You for her wonderful caregivers, Debora Peaks and Marthe Joseph. The family would also like to acknowledge previous caregiver Cassandra Gross and her staff for taking care of Peter until his death. Cassandra continued to maintain her friendship with Helen and her family. Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Sunday, June 1 from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd, Edgewater, MD 21037. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, June 2 at Ss. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 2747 Riva Road, Annapolis. Interment will follow at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Cemetery, Annapolis.
