Helen Elizabeth Pritchett - Obituary

H

elen Elizabeth Pritchett was born on August 20, 1936, in Christiansburg, Virginia, to the late Tillman Gray and Zora Claytor. On May 31, 2025, she peacefully transitioned to her eternal home at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C. Over the years, Helen's incredible journey took on an even deeper meaning as she passed on the anniversary of her wedding, a testament to the love she shared with her husband. Helen married Raymond Norris Pritchett on May 31, 1958, and together they raised four daughters: Debra, Ramona, Linda, and Rae. Their family was a reflection of the warmth and love for which she was known. As Church Mother and Hospitality President at Way of Truth and Life Ministries Church of God in Christ, Helen touched many lives with her generous spirit and welcoming nature. Her commitment to both ministry and education was evident throughout her career as she taught Pre-K and Preschool and worked as a Para-Professional Assistant at St. Thomas More Catholic School, Assumption Catholic School, Sylvan Learning Center, and Kaplan, until her retirement. Helen, a proud graduate of Christiansburg Institute, was among the 44 students who earned their diplomas in 1954. She furthered her education by obtaining a degree in Business Education. From an early age, she embraced her faith, accepting Christ as her Savior and nurturing a deep spiritual journey throughout her life. Helen was passionate about Bible study and had a keen interest in Black history, often sharing the insights she gained from documentaries and real-life experiences with those around her. Her legacy of faith, education, and a commitment to sharing knowledge will be fondly remembered. Helen’s vibrant spirit shone through her passion for collecting, especially her cherished Obama memorabilia. Her youngest daughter once joked, “We should call Obama and tell him to come get his stuff!” Helen was deeply committed to causes close to her heart, lending her support to organizations such as Howard University, Habitat for Humanity, the United Negro College Fund, and many others. She will be remembered for her enthusiasm and unwavering dedication to making a difference in the lives of others. In her leisure time, Helen found happiness in gardening, reading, cooking, decorating, solving puzzles, and delighting loved ones with her famous lemon pound cake—especially during the holiday season. Family gatherings were filled with her laughter, love, and warmth. A dedicated community member, Helen proudly served in the Lynnalan Acres Concerned Citizens Association. Her legacy of integrity, kindness, and a willingness to help others defined her well-lived life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Tillman Gray and Zora Claytor; her husband, Raymond Pritchett; her sister, Doris Thames; her brothers, Thomas Pettis I and William Gray; and her daughters, Ramona Pritchett and Linda Pritchett. Helen's legacy of love continues through her beloved daughters, Debra Ann Davis and Rae Pritchett Revelle; her son-in-love, Joseph “Bernard” Davis Sr.; her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; as well as her nieces, nephews, and numerous friends and church family. Her nurturing words, compassionate listening, thoughtful flowers and cards, and supportive nature will be profoundly missed. Acknowledgements The family extends heartfelt thanks to everyone for the acts of kindness and love shown during our time of bereavement. May God continue to bless and keep you in His loving care. A special thanks to Sara Tompkins and Donna Wilson. A private service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery
