Helen Leanos Snyder - Obituary

elen Leanos Snyder, 93, of Annapolis, MD, passed away at Anne Arundel Medical Center on Monday, November 25, 2024. She was born on March 16, 1931 in Annapolis to the late Jim and Anna Katsereles Leanos, proprietors of the beloved Jim's Corner restaurant. Helen graduated from Annapolis High School in 1948 and later, the Fleet Business School. She dedicated 28 years to managing voice communications for the Anne Arundel County Board of Education. In 1953, she married Capt. Ned C. Snyder of Lafayette, IN and they dedicated their lives to service. Helen devoted over 10,000 volunteer hours to Anne Arundel Medical Center and over 2,000 hours to the Navy Relief Society. Her family was among the founders, and she was a lifelong member, of Ss. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Annapolis. Helen was a past president of the Agia Anna Ladies Philoptochos Society and served the church community in various capacities for more than 50 years. In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her 6 older siblings, Speros, Foteos, Gus, Pauline, Virginia and Elisabeth. She is survived by her children, Stephanie (Steven) Young and Frank Snyder and her cherished grandchildren, Alec, John, Harrison and Holly. Friends are invited to celebrate Helen's life at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD on Sunday, December 1 from 3 to 5 pm. Her funeral service will be held at Ss. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 2747 Riva Rd., Annapolis, MD on Monday, December 2 at 11 am. Interment will follow at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Cemetery in Annapolis. All are invited back to the church for a luncheon.
