Helen Jones Vaughn - Obituary

ne of eight children, Helen Elizabeth Jones Vaughn was born December 31, 1924 to the late Virginia and Beezell White in New Hope, Va. Her nurturing and caring spirit led her to enter the Nursing profession where for over 40 years she provided tender care as a Licensed Practical Nurse at various hospitals and nursing home facilities in the Waynesboro, VA, Washington, D.C. and Maryland area. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Highland Park in Landover, MD where she was a member of the Pastor's Partners. Helen had a great love of family and relished in the opportunity to host her annual New Year's soiree which featured a belly-filling meal and the family sitting around her table in anticipation of the Pokena game. Helen was blessed with the gift of gab and never neglected the occasion to give her solicited and unsolicited opinion on a variety of subjects. Because of this gift, she used her telephone as a vehicle to minister to those who needed this opinion. Those left to cherish her memory are two surrogate sons Harry and Ronnie; six surrogate daughters Valerie, Peggy, Dolores, Juanita, Jackie and Priscilla; four surrogate grandchildren Ashley, Tyler, Keisha and Nakkiyah; three great grandchildren Niara, Nahzri, Neriah; a host of nieces, nephews and friends and a loving caregiver Diosa "Di" Crossbourne. She was preceded in death by her son Winfred Casey; grandson Derek T. Casey; five sisters Sadie, Thelma, Odella, Louise, and Dorothy and two brothers Jack and Lawrence.
