elga A. Brynarsky
Helga A. Brynarsky, 94, a resident of LaCasa Assisted Living in Annapolis, MD passed April 20, 2016. She was a 46 year resident of Harwood, MD, moving to Brightview Assisted Living, Edgewater, MD in 2012, and Annapolis in 2015.
Helga was born May 24, 1921, in Rustringen, Germany, traveling to the United States in 1924 with her parents, the late Heinrich and Henriette Kortlang, and her sister, the late Hanna O’Connor. Settling in Washington DC, Helga attended and graduated from Eastern High School. Becoming an American citizen in 1945.
Following high school, she went to work for the AFL--‐CIO as an executive secretary and later Prince George's Community College in 1967 as secretary to numerous professors. Helga and her husband enjoyed traveling the United States, Mexico, and Canada and saved every postcard, picture, and maps of the areas they traveled. They loved being on the road together, and she was an avid photographer. Helga will be remembered for her bright smile, soft touch, and friendly spirit. Her children often spoke of her as the best Mom anyone could have. She welcomed all into her home.
In addition to her parents and sister she was preceded in death by her husband John J. Brynarsky, whom she married in 1949, and her son John H. Brynarsky.
She is survived by her daughter Elaine H. Baker (Joe) of Edgewater, MD and one grandson Jason Brynarsky (Jessica) of Odenton, MD.
Services are private by the George P. Kalas Funeral Home in Edgewater,MD, followed by interment at Lakemont Cemetery in Davidsonville.
