enry Roscoe Garufi, Jr., 81, left his beloved family and friends on September 22, 2026. Born on June 15, 1945, in Washington DC, Henry moved to Prince Georges County, Maryland at eight years old and later lived throughout Maryland with his wife, Patricia, in Odenton and Salisbury for many years before moving to Edgewater, Maryland for the past year to be closer to family. Known to his six siblings as “Junior,” Henry grew up in Bladensburg, MD, graduating from Bladensburg High School in 1963. Following graduation, he proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, guarding missile siloes in interior of the country. Following Henry’s time in the Air Force, his vocations that followed all centered on going to where people were, serving their needs, and making friends along the way. Henry enjoyed a 30-year career as a letter carrier in the United States Postal Service, where he held many walking routes which afforded him the opportunity to walk “hundreds of thousands of miles”. He often stopped and made conversations with his customers. Always a joy to be around, Henry was part of the “Luney Tunes” DJ service, along with wife Patricia, for many years. He was never shy to take the mic and lead on the dance floor at various weddings, dances and events, rousing the crowd for a great time. Following his retirement from the Postal Service, Henry drove for a shuttle service, performed residential pest control with his son-in-law, Joseph, and tended to the landscaping needs of many of his former postal customers. He could always be counted on for a huge smile, a laugh, and to show up when needed. Henry enjoyed many hobbies throughout his lifetime, including golf, tennis, running, bowling, and pool, where he played often at the Bowie Senior Center and won several tournaments. He was involved in many activities with his children, coaching t-ball, soccer and basketball and teaching them how to bowl and play tennis. He was also a devoted fan of the Washington Redskins. Henry is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Patricia Garufi; his daughter, Regina McMahon, and son-in-law, Joseph McMahon, of Edgewater (Mayo), Maryland; and his son, Vincent Garufi, and daughter-in law, Kristen Garufi, of Yardley, Pennsylvania. “Junior” being the oldest of seven children, is also survived by his sisters, Roseanne Hankins of Stevensville, Maryland, and Mary Burneston of Stevensville, Maryland, and his brother, Kenneth Garufi, of Glenwood, MD. He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Garufi, Sr.; his mother, Helen Carrigan (Karayanis) Garufi; and his brothers James, Nicholas, and Thomas Garufi. Henry was a loving grandfather to five grandsons (Thomas, Justin, Alec, Devin, and Leo) and he was also blessed with four great-grandchildren (Jack, Olivia, Sophie, and Gabriella). The family would like to extend a special thanks to Country Home in Harwood, MD for making Henry’s last days the best for the best father, grandfather, and husband that anyone could hope for. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Henry's life on Monday, September 28 from 11 AM to 12 PM, with his memorial service beginning at 12 PM at Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road Edgewater, MD 21037. Immediately following, all who are able to attend are invited to a reception in Davidsonville, Maryland. Flowers are warmly accepted at the funeral home.
